New AZBDP website! 2.0 beta launch

posted by randy on March 26, 2012

Well it’s finally here. The remodeling and makeover of the Back Door Poker League website.

I’ve been dreaming about this for… only a few years. 😛
The reason for the new site is to implement tons of new code ideas to make this site a lot more efficient and allow it to be updated very regularly.
Instead of the website upkeep being a one man job it will now be taken care of by several contributors. And its gonna be a lot more interactive for you as the user as well.

The reason that it took this long to get this new website shipped is quiet simply because my skills and abilities as a web developer sucked, haa!
But Jason and the others remained faithful and let this site stay as my baby. So in a long overdue thanks I’m giving back the AZBDP community a neat little tool.

As the title says, this is the beta launch. Everything is very simple and bland right now compared to the vision I have in mind for it in the future. So expect several changes and new concepts to be added as time goes on. I’m also still working on some of the hardcore coding – For example you will notice the ranking system is pretty much the same with a huge downshift in graphical appearance, but this is one of the main areas that is still in development.

On top of this site being fine tuned to be a much more useful source of AZBDP information, we are also gonna be introducing some very cool ideas that is gonna take this site, and hopefully the League itself, in totally new directions. I don’t want to give away too much right now (mostly cause I don’t want to feel like a failure if it isn’t whipped out quick enough :)), but I’m very excited to start working on those new changes and see how they develop.

…Oh and I have to say if you are using Internet Explorer as your Web Browser, please – STOP! Do me and yourself a favor and Start using Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser. This is a general suggestion to make ALL of your internet browsing experience better and more secure. And yes I’m bringing this up because I just got done coding this site and IE is a pain in the ass, I’m bitter haha!

Also you will get the chance to instantly post Comments and replies to lots of different areas on this site. All you need to do is when you post a comment using your e-mail, either me or another moderator have to approve the comment. Once we approve it the first time then you will always be able to post comments instantly with that same e-mail address.

Another cool tip – If you want to display a picture/avatar for when you comment, you can register your e-mail at gravatar.com and upload a picture there. That will assign an avatar to your e-mail that you can then use with just about EVERY blog/website on the internet that accepts comments, not just here at azbdp.

Well that pretty much covers it for now. Thanks to everyone for playing with Back Door Poker over the years! Hope to continue our successful run! Run of bad-beats that is, ooooohhh snap. Sorry that was lame, I’ve been putting up way too many hours into this site. See you all around the poker table – take care.

About this author

randy

I have been involved with azbdp since late 2008. Been playing poker for much longer than that. Went to my first casino back in 2004 at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, sat in a small-stakes limit cash game, flopped a king high straight, won $150 in one pot. The rest is history! ...I'm also a full time web designer and the developer of this website.

Tell me about the pain in the ass that is Internet Explorer! Had to build my wife’s website last year under a deadline and thought that most of my CSS exceptions would be due to Safari. Bwahaha was I ever wrong! I actually have “This site is best viewed with” and then threw the FireFox logo on there.

This site looks nice, maybe one day I’ll actually get out and play rather than just double-checking the schedule from time to time. Don’t play much live anymore and when I was before it was with All In Entertainment, but, want to check out a different league!

If everyone emailed me every night with the totals from each site, I’d be happy to update the numbers everyday. I can assist in any way needed. Just throwing that out there. You guys do a great job so I’d be happy to help out when possible.

Thank you!

Haha Dallas, well the way we have to collaborate with the points sheets it makes it almost impossible to do it daily. There is alot of data entry that goes along with it. But we are still working on that to get them up faster.

Nice job, Randy. So, does this mean that points will be updated daily, now? Slackers. Haha.

Very excited to see the new website – I am looking forward to hearing the news right after it happens and being kept up to date on who and what is going on. This is a neat little organization and it will make it a lot more fun to have an interaction between players, leaders, and website. Congrats
